$6 Million Beautification Project to Begin Along Marietta Street
In August 2010, construction will begin to improve the sidewalks and streets of downtown Atlanta's most popular tourist spots around Centennial Olympic Park. Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive will be spruced up with new concrete and decorative paver sidewalks, improved pedestrian lighting and plantings of flowers and trees. The $6 million project will also improve the safety of the streets with high-visibility crosswalk markings and ADA-compliant sidewalks.

Piedmont Park Gets a 53-Acre Expansion, Doubling Its Size
Scheduled to open November 2010, an expansion to Midtown's Piedmont Park will nearly double the size of the beloved green space. The new design will feature a public skate park, basketball courts, an interactive fountain and expanded hiking trails and athletic fields. There will also be a new visitor's center and an 800-space parking facility build to LEED standards.

New Development in Northern Downtown
The W Atlanta-Downtown Hotel, which opened January 2009, is the latest addition to a nine-block, mixed-use development, located on the northern edge of downtown. The area is also home to French American Brasserie, Au Bon Pain, Room at TWELVE and Mellow Mushroom. When the final phase is completed, the plaza will include more than 2 million square-feet of office space; 200,000 square-feet of neighborhood retail and restaurants; more than 3,000 residences; and more than 500 luxury hotel rooms. The project, expected to be completed in 2012, will cost a total of $1.95 billion.
