In the early 1960s Atlanta became the cultural catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement. While those efforts predate the city's involvement, the activists quickly found their spiritual center within the Sweet Auburn district. Today, Atlanta is the only city in the nation where you can view two Nobel Peace Prizes - located in the King Center and the newly revitalized Carter Center.

In celebration of the city's Civil Rights Legacy, you'll find notable events and people, landmarks and attractions, tours and present day festivals. Explore the site and city for an in-depth look at the effects of rarely-mentioned catalysts as well as revolutionary people.

The city of Atlanta is the embodiment of charm and Southern hospitality which belies a truly progressive character that has defined a legacy and continues through to present day to exert leadership and builds on the civil rights movement. Open minds and open arms invite you to explore our city's distinguished past!
