The World Football Challenge
The Georgia Dome hosted the inaugural World Football Challenge tournament stop between soccer clubs AC Milan vs. Club America on July 22, 2009. Four of the world's top soccer teams competed in the U.S. in an unprecedented six-city round robin tournament, making Atlanta a part of soccer history.
AC Milan and Club America competed for the third match in the tournament with a score of 2-1, and Club America was the winner. Club America played two days prior against Inter at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, Ca., while AC Milan played again July 24 in Baltimore, Md. then July 26 in Foxborough, Mass. Other tournament city stops included Pasadena, Ca. and Arlington, Tx.
