Atlanta Braves
Atlanta Braves baseball has given Atlanta baseball fans plenty to cheer about in the years since the sports franchise moved to Georgia. Since 1966, Atlanta's major-league baseball team has made five trips to the World Series (1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1999) and won the coveted championship once (in 1995). More than 20 years before the Atlanta Braves baseball team clinched the World Series title, Atlanta sports fans witnessed a monumental moment in MLB history. In 1974, in the days when the National League baseball team played in Atlanta Stadium, the Atlanta Braves' Hank Aaron batted in his 715th career homer and surpassed Babe Ruth's long-time home run record.
Today, Atlanta Stadium — the site of Hall of Famer Hank Aaron's historic home run — is only a memory, but the excitement of Atlanta Braves baseball continues at Turner Field. The Atlanta ballpark first hosted an Atlanta Braves baseball team home game in 1997. Before it became "the Home of the Braves," Turner Field stadium was known as Olympic Stadium. The 50,000-seat stadium was originally built for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
